How can we appeal persuasively to others?
Objective: Students will identify persuasive appeals in advertisements and intentionally use persuasive appeals themselves.
1. Language Lab #23 (Come up with your own example of a single sentence that uses parallelism.)
2. We read independently for 15-20 minutes, adding a new vocabulary word to our word lists (WN p. 61) and completing a reading log using a reading strategy of our choice.
3. We learned about the three persuasive appeals of pathos, logos, and ethos.
4. WN #32: Persuasive Appeals. (For each advertisement, make a short list identifying any choices that are an example of appealing to pathos, logos, or ethos.)
5. In small groups, we designed ads for an assigned product type that focused on using one of the three persuasive appeals. (If you were absent, see Mrs. Craft about how to make up this assignment.)
