Can I develop and support my position in writing?
Objective: Students will compose a paper that uses textual evidence to support their ideas.
1. We turned in our vignette book brainstorming sheets.
2. Power word: decompose (de- = opposite; com-, con- = with; pos = to put, toplace) and vocab list #3.
3. We took vocabulary quiz #2.
4. We spent a few minutes working on our vocabulary cards.
5. We completed a type of essay called an DBQ (document-based question).
For next time: Read p. 34-52 of The House on Mango Street. As you read, pick 5 examples of figurative language to try imitating in your own vignettes. Begin drafting some of your own vignettes. Bring rough drafts of two or three to class. Also, bring your Writer's Notebooks for notebook checks.
