Focus: What is analysis? How do we analyze? What can we analyze?
Objective: Students will prepare for analysis writing by interpreting evidence and categorizing features.
1. As a class, we read a children's book and discussed our thoughts about it in order to understand the difference between summary (what is this about?), response (what do I think about this?), and analysis (How do the parts of this work? Why does each part matter?).
2. Independent reading.
3. Reading log. (Analyze what you read using a summary.)
4. In pairs, we completed a Picture Book Analysis of foreign-language picture books.
5. In small groups, we brainstormed how to analyze different types of things.
Homework: No homework.
