Focus: Why is what others say important? Why does what we think about it matter?
Objective: Students will write an objective summary and a supported response.
1. Writers Notebook #14
2..We used examples (such as these silly movie summaries) to discuss qualities of a good summary (concise, comprehensive, objective) and qualities of a good response (subjective, supported, focused).
3. Independent reading and advisory conferences.
4. Reading log: We filled out two sides of an index card: one side with an objective summary of what we read today and the other side with a supported response about our reading.
5. We watched this video and discussed our first impressions.
6. We individually annotated a transcript of the video, using the left margin to sumomarize the main ideas presented and the right margin to record our reaction to those ideas.
Homework: Finish annotating "What Students Really Need to Hear."
