Focus: What is annotation? Why do we annotate?
Objective: Students will annotate selections purposefully.
1. Review Writer's Notebook check #1
2. Independent reading and reading log.
3. Advisory conferences.
4. We discussed ways to annotate and reasons to annotate.
5. We practiced annotating to a purpose by assuming one of four secret identities while reading "The House." In small groups, we prioritized details from the text and guessed each other's identities based on these details.
6. As a class, we analyzed what the prompt of this DBQ packet was asking. Together, we developed a system of annotation for marking different types of benefits and harms. Then we worked together to annotate the first three sources in the packet.
Homework: Finish annotating the Pokémon packet.
