Focus: Why should we try to understand people's characters more deeply?
Objective: Students will explain different characters' viewpoints and motivations.
1. We learned that stereotypes occur when we look at one trait (usually an outer characteristic) and make assumptions about other traits. Stereotypes treat characters as if they are flat (simple, one -sided) and static (unchanging) rather than round (complex, multi-sided) and dynamic (capable of change and growth).
2. Writers Notebook #11
3. As a class, we read chapters 2-4 of Seedfolks and began filling out this character chart.
4. Advisory conferences.
5. Exit slip: What is one thing you can do to fight against harmful stereotypes?
No homework.
