What does a well-developed recap paragraph look like?
Objective: Students will recap others' ideas in well-developed paragraphs.
1. Starter: Vocab list #8.
2. We discussed the difference between responding to a text and recapping it.
3. As a class, we watched a video created by one teacher and addressed to his students.
4. We each annotated a copy of the original essay, differentiating between the author's main ideas and our own responses.
5. We each wrote two paragraphs about the essay: In the first paragraph we used summary, paraphrase, and quotation to recap the essay's main points (instructions here). In the second paragraph, we presented our own thoughts and responses.
6. In small groups, we shared our responses to the video with our classmates.
For next time: Come prepared to begin speech presentations.
