Focus: What is an inference? How do we make inferences?
Objective: Students will give evidence to support inferences.
1. Writers Notebook #3
2. Independent reading for 10 minutes, then we each filled out a reading log.
3. Advisory conferences.
4. We learned that an inference is an idea you figure out based on evidence. We used this handout to practice making inferences, first about Norman Rockwell paintings and then about "The World's Shortest Detective Story."
5. We each wrote 2–3 sentences that would lead readers to infer a location. (Here is an example.)
