Objective: Students will analyze how rhetorical choices influence the effectiveness of a speech.

3. In small groups and then as a class we discussed the relationship of Huck & Jim in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
4. We watched a short video that provided the historical context for Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.
5. As a class, we analyzed the effectiveness of the Gettysburg Address by discussing the relationship between its context, audience, purpose, and rhetorical techniques.
6. We discussed factors that make speeches and other types of persuasion effective or ineffective.
7. We learned about the persuasive appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos.
8. We each received our individual speech assignments to analyze along with a speech analysis worksheet.
9. We each submitted our writer's notebook for notebook checks.
