What is form? How does it relate to content?
Objective: Students will explain the form and content of a piece of poetry and imitate features of the poem's form.
1. Word of the Day #24: expedient
2. Language Lab #20
3. We read some background information on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his poetry. We then discussed the difference between form and content and how we can look for each in poetry.
4. Writers Notebook: In our notebooks, we wrote a few sentences apiece summarizing a) the form and b) the content of Longfellow's poem A Psalm of Life.
5. In our notebooks, we each wrote parody poems that mimic the form of A Psalm of Life while dealing with different content. (See examples here and here.)
For next time: No homework.
