What are sensory details?
Objective: Students will strategically use sensory details to create the mood of a setting.
1. WN #44 part 1: Copy the definition of sensory details (details that describe the experience of the 5 senses--seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching). Then look at these 3 settings. For each setting, write down 5 sensory details you would experience there and pick one word to describe the mood of the setting..
2. We read these paragraphs and discussed how details in a story work together to create the mood.
3. WN #44 part 2: We were each assigned a setting and a mood from stacks of cards. In our notebooks, we wrote descriptive paragraphs showing our chosen setting in the assigned mood. We shared our paragraphs with our groups and tried to guess each other's assigned settings and moods.
4. We each chose a setting from our planned personal narrative stories and quick-wrote for ten minutes, trying to imbue that setting with a mood we thought appropriate for our story.
5. We each checked off our Story organization assignment.
For next time: Complete my quickwrite.
