How can symbols deepen our ideas?
Objective: Students will identify and explain the use of a symbol in a novel.
1. Word of the Day #24: expedient
2. Language Lab #20
3. We spent 20 minutes reading Speak independently.
4. As a class, we discussed the place of symbols in our culture.
5. WN #27 (pt 1): In our notebooks, we each created a few symbols by explaining the relationship between a tangible object and an intangible idea.
6. We watched a slam poetry performance and discussed its use of symbolism.
7. WN #27 (pt 2)
8. We discussed how allusions are a special type of symbol and learned how to complete our allusion assignment for Speak.
9. We previewed our group symbolism poster assignment and began planning our posters with our "destiny word" groups.
