What can we find to say about articles we read?
Objective: Students will share their responses to news articles in discussion and writing.
1. Starter: Vocab list #2
2. We each chose one of three articles to read and annotate: One Step Closer to Printing that Boarding Pass to Mars; Privacy advocates try to keep 'creepy,' 'eavesdropping' Hello Barbie from hitting shelves; or How Your Cell Phone Hurts Your Relationships.
3. In small groups, we discussed our reactions to the articles we had read and annotated.
4. We learned the TEXT structure for writing academic paragraphs: T=topic sentence (introduction + claim), E=evidence to support the claim, X=explanation of how the evidence supports the claim, T=tie-up the ideas.
5. Together, each group wrote a response paragraph to the article they read and discussed.
6. Exit slip: Turn in your annotated article and group paragraph
For next time: No homework
