What do we consider when we evaluate stories and arguments?
Objective: Students will make evaluations of choices in literature and evidence in arguments.
1. Word of the Day #14: surfeit
2. Language Lab #11
3. Writer's Notebook #16
4. We read independently for 15 minutes and completed a reading log using the reading strategy of making evaluations.
5. We reviewed our study skills chart from last time and added two more pieces of information to it: a) First, we labeled each study strategy to indicate whether it was evaluated positively (+) or negatively (-) in the articles; b) Then we made our own evaluation of the strength of each article's argument, circling strategies that were connected to a claim supported by evidence.
6. Finally, we read one final article, "To Really Learn, Quit Studying and Take a Test" and added its strategies to our study skills chart.
For next time: Remember to bring a reading book.
